Performing Fat Liberation: Pretty Porky and Pissed Off’s Affective Politics and Archive

This article uses collaborative auto/ethnography to explore the circulation and potentiality of affect in live performances archive Pretty Porky Pissed Off (PPPOd), a Toronto-based queer fat activist performance art collective active during late 1990s mid-2000s. Drawing on video audio recordings five PPPOd alongside other ephemera series conversations relating these archival objects among article’s three authors, we identify theorize our affective responses situated recollections performances, both their current form as historical events. We argue that PPPOd’s objects/live disrupt constellation affects constitute hate (e.g., fear, loathing, shame) set motion more affirmative playfulness, pride, desire, love) contribute micro-worldings prefigurative politics, ephemeral might be. In capturing fleeting moments radical possibility, activism offer opportunities for touching feeling future where lives are livable.
